I don't know how everyone feels about this but I can't listen to music if I don't relate to it and can't imagine my self as the star in the music video. Don't get me wrong, If im out at a club, karaoke or pub, I wont be listening to Maroon 5 - she will be loved. I enjoy 60's- 90's, club music, but only when im out. If I'm in the shower, laying in bed or in my car you best believe I'm crying whilst singing my heart out.
The majority of people who know me, must think I have some serious issues. I am the last person who gets handed the aux. There's just something about relating to the lyrics in a song - it's comforting. If I'm having a good day and I am travelling somewhere, il listen to songs that say F**k you, girl power song. It just get me pumped. In addition, I find listening to sad songs, when your sad, is so therapeutic. I was recently in a 2 and half hour car journey alone, having a down day, listening to my sad playlist. After balling my eyes out and screaming to myself for a couple hours, I felt great by the end of it. Got to my brothers, looked awful as my make up was everywhere and my eyes were puffy, but felt so great afterwards.
Relating to something when your not in the best mindset is so important for me. Makes you feel like your not alone and if someone's making a song about it, then know there is so many others who have felt it. Its like a quick burst of relief. Next thing you know your listening to Natasha Bedingfield - Pocket full of sunshine. Here's a link, thank me later;
Music isn't the only think that helps me during those down days I have, it's one of many.
